Plant Genomes

Below are download links and information about the plant genomes we have assembled so far.

Mints (Mentha)

Apple mint – Mentha suaveolens
  • We assembled the genome of diploid Mentha suaveolens (Pl 557898 or CMEN 13), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).
  • Download links and methods details
  • Associated publication with genetic map information: Tsai et al, 2021
  • This work was funded by Mars Wrigley

Water mint – Mentha aquatica
  • We assembled the genome of octoploid Mentha aquatica (Pl 617488 or CMEN 678), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).
  • Download links and methods details
  • This work was funded by the Mint Industry Research Council (MIRC).

Horse mint – Mentha longifolia
  • The genome of diploid horse mint, Mentha longifolia (Pl 557898 or CMEN 13), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA) was sequenced previously (see Vining et al, 2022.)
  • Genome assembly files can be found on the Mint Genomic Resources page from Markus Lange Laboratory website (WSU).

Peppermint – Mentha piperita Black Mitcham
  • We are in the process of assembling the genome of elite peppermint Black Mitcham.
  • Stay tuned…

Spearmint – Mentha spicata
  • We are currently finalizing the genome of Mentha spicata l. var. crispa Schr. (PI 557802), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).
  • Stay tuned…

Other Plant Genomes

Fruits from diploid persimmon (D. lotus) are much smaller then the commercial fruit from hexaploid persimmon (D. kaki).
Diploid Persimmon – Dyospyros lotus
  • We assembled the genome of diploid persimmon, Diospyros lotus.
  • This works was published in 2020: Akagi et al, PLoS Genetics, 2020.
  • Data is available from the PersimmonDB hosted by the
  • This work was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) IOS award under Grant No. 1457230 (to IMH and LC).
